The United Kingdom Competition Appeal Tribunal is a specialist judicial body with cross-disciplinary expertise in law, economics, business and accountancy whose function is to hear and decide cases involving competition or economic regulatory issues.

    The President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal is pleased to announce that the Lord Chancellor has appointed 5 new members to the panel of chairmen of the Competition Appeal Tribunal. 

  • Acting President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal

    The following update was published earlier today on the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary website:

    The President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal’s (CAT) term of office ends on 4 November 2024. A Judicial Appointments Commission competition to appoint a new CAT President will be announced shortly. The Lord Chancellor has appointed Sir Peter Roth as acting CAT President until a new President is appointed.

  • The Bellamy Lecture | Thursday 16th May 2024

    The Competition Appeal Tribunal held the second Bellamy Lecture, at Salisbury Square House on Thursday 16th May 2024.

    The subject of the lecture was “Competition Policy and the Consumer Welfare Standard” and was delivered by Professor Sir John Vickers FBA (Warden of All Souls College, Oxford). A transcript of the full text of the lecture is available here.
